The Bible Is My Best Friend Family Devotional by Shelia Walsh, from B & H Publishing.

kids family decotionalThe Bible Is My Best Friend–Family Devotional

52 Devotions for Families

Gather the family and spend some time with your best friend—the Bible!

From best-selling author Sheila Walsh, the Bible Is My Best Friend Family Devotional connects families both to God’s Word and to each other. Fifty-two key scriptures form the basis for the devotions, which build on the verses, challenge the family to commit them to memory, and explore how each verse is part of God’s wonderful message. “Let’s Talk” questions urge the family to discuss what they’ve learned and offer challenges for different ages of children as well as their parents.

This unique family devotional touches both the mind and the heart. Minds will grow as the text builds on past weeks by reviewing memory work and themes. But most importantly, hearts will grow as families learn together to value the gifts found in the Bible and realize how God’s Word can be their greatest friend.

Family Devotional has 52 devotions for families. Each devotions starts out with a memory verse, followed by the one page devotion. Then there is a Let’s Talk that gives families a chance to talk about how the devotion applies to their life. Followed by a Family Fun section with a craft that goes along with the topic, and a Weekly Challenge and a Check Point for the family to talk about things they can do to take action about the devotion.

This is a neat devotional, it can be used for the entire family. I like that the devotions are so short because it give you the opportunity to use the devotions for a wide age span. You can easily add to what is written for each day if your children are older. The layout of the book is beautiful and the pages are full of color, the people and graphics are adorable and would be cute for any age. This is a very nice family devotional book. I encourage you to check out this Family Devotional by Shelia Walsh.

Bedtime Snuggles by Patricia Eubank

Bedtime SnugglesBedtime Snuggles

by Patricia Reeder Eubank

A sweet and cozy book that’s perfect for bedtime reading
As the sun slowly sinks in the nighttime sky, baby farm animals of all shapes and sizes snuggle up with their mamas for a good night’s sleep. Little ones will love the cozy animals and the sweet conclusion—a mother rocking her child to sleep. Patti Eubank’s expressive rhyming text is paired with her finely detailed illustrations to create a board book that is perfect for bedtime reading. It doesn’t get any sweeter than this! Ages 2 to 5.

About the Author

Patricia Reeder Eubank has written and illustrated many titles for Ideals Children’s Books, including Seaman’s Journal, Just Where You Belong, and ABCs of Halloween. Patricia’s love of animals shines through on nearly every page of each book she has illustrated. She lives in the Santa Ynez Valley of California with her family and their many animals.

I love board books for little ones, and this is such a cute one. I really enjoyed reading this to my niece so I could review it. This cute little story is about animal found around the house and farm, as well as wild animals found in the woods and forest around your home. The adorable pages are thick board and the beautiful front cover is padded. I love the way each picture of the animals are so beautifully placed in an environment that was natural to them. The colors are so pastel and pretty. And I especially love the last page where the mother is holding her child in the child’s room, with pets and stuffed animals laying around the room.

I love this storybook for little ones. It can be read to your child, or it can also be read by a child that is a little older and can read. This is such a cute and sweet story that your little one will have you reading it to them over and over.

NIrV, Under the Sea Holy Bible

NIrV, Under the Sea
Holy Bible

under the sea Bible

About the Bible

The Under the Sea Holy Bible, NIrV is a perfect gift for children ages 6 to 10. Themes of underwater fun and sparkling fish grace the interior of this wonderful children’s Bible. The outside is covered in foil and sparkle. The interior has color inserts featuring whimsical underwater scenes with themes of God’s care and love for each of us and all of creation.

My Thoughts on this Book

I love the cover of this Bible, with the colors and fish, it is very appealing to children. But I was really disappointed when I opened the Bible up. The font is very small, and pretty difficult to read.

There are several things in this Bible that will help children with their Bible study. The five page dictionary helps understand some of the words in the Bible, and the list of Great Bible Stories with verses to go along with the story are great tools to use with your children as they read this Bible. There are also several colorful pages throughout this Bible that are a beautiful addition.

Overall, I don’t think this is a Bible I would purchase for small children, because of the very small font.   I received this book from Blogging for Books to read and review. My Sister Lulu and Me by Traci Dunham

my sister lulu and meMy Sister Lulu and Me
by Traci Dunham

About this book

Through this heartwarming story children will learn that God makes everyone uniquely special. Travel with Lulu and her sister through everyday life and discover what makes their bond strong. A great story to educate and open up a dialogue with young children about acceptance of others who are different and are disabled.

Lulu was a uniquely special sister because she had a handicap, and because of that, she wasn’t able to do the things most children can do. She couldn’t learn as quickly as other children. But she still had just as much fun as any other child. Lulu enjoys going to the park to play, going to the beach. She likes eating the same things every day, and her family rides her in a special chair when going somewhere. Even though Lulu is different, she and her sister love each other, and enjoy doing things together.

This is such a special book for children to read. I’ve always enjoyed reading books about children with special needs because they teach other children how to interact and be friends with them. The sister in this story reminds me of my sweet seven year old niece, because when Abbi sees a special needs child, she always approaches them with love and kindness, spending time with them, making them feel accepted. I love how the sister ‘My Sister Lulu and Me’ makes her sister feel loved and accepted. This is so much needed today, especially with all of the bullying that goes on among kids. Author Traci Dunham does an excellent job of writing this story in a way that children can understand more clearly about a special needs child and how to act around them.

And I have to mention the illustrations in this book. They are awesome, filled with vivid color, making each page pop out at you when you turn the pages. I especially love the characters adorable faces. ‘My Sister Lulu and Me’ is truly a special book, and beautiful inside and out. Every child needs to read this book!

A Different Kind of Hero……….. Book Review

A Different Kind of Hero……….. Book Review

My Review
This is a story about Tomagochi the monkey. Tomagochi thought he was a boring plain monkey and that made him sad. Even his friends Peshe the tiger and Mocho the tucan couldn’t cheer him up. Then one day several men came into the rainforest where the animals lived with bulldozers and axes to destroy the forest. That’s when Tomagochi discovered something very special about himself that none of the other animals could do. What do you think happened? Did these men destroy the rain forest? Or wonder if Tomagochi did something to stop them? How about getting a copy of this book and find out what happened to Tomagochi and his friends?

My favorite children stories are those teaching young readers that everyone is unique and special in their own way, just as the author teaches in this wonderful book. I liked that Tomagochi’s friends were supporting him and helping him to understand how important each of them were. The characters are adorable and the colors used in this book fit wonderfully with the story. The green background even gives you the forest feel while reading this book.  I recommend all libraries that have children’s books to grab a couple copies of this awesome little book for children to have access to. And of course it would make a great addition to your child’s library as well.

The Donkey And The King ….A Story of Redemption By: Lorilyn Robert Illustrated by: Linda S. DiFranco

The Donkey And The King
A Story of Redemption
By: Lorilyn Robert Illustrated by: Linda S. DiFranco

the donkey and the kingIn The Donkey and the King, Lorilyn Roberts teaches Jesus’ love and forgiveness to children through a cast of small animals. Baruch thought the world was better on the other side of the way he was living, so he decided to take off and see what the future held for him. He thought he would be free and no one could tell him what to do. He soon finds out that life is not what it’s cracked up to be in the world. He misses his friends and the safety of his home.

On his journey he meets a sheep that was sent by the King to find Baruch, which really scares Baruch because he couldn’t figure out why the King, who didn’t even know him, would send the sheep to find him. This couldn’t be good!

This book is absolutely precious! I love the beautiful story of Baruch the donkey and how he found forgiveness in his life. Of course my almost 3 year old niece has a donkey named Jake, so she wouldn’t hear of this one’s name being Baruch, it was Jake for her! (sorry Lorilyn, I couldn’t convince her J).  She adores this book and carries it around with her a lot. She reads it herself now, looking at the pictures and telling her own story. The story of Baruch is beautiful and has a wonderful message, the colors are captivating and will capture the interest of children. And the sweet adorable animals on the front of the book will have your child begging for this adorable book.

I highly recommend this book for your child’s library. You just can’t go wrong having a strong Bible based book teaching children the truth of the love and forgiveness of Jesus, and why we really celebrate Christmas. And it also teaches the valuable lesson of being content, that things are not always better with someone else or in another situation. I can’t say enough about the illustrations in the book either! The animals are so cute and adorable and the colors are beautifully blended together. You just gotta see this book to believe it!

I want to thank the author Lorilyn Roberts for providing a copy of this book for me to read and review. I was not expected or required to give a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.
